IMG_0063.JPGCurrently white wine is all that is on my mind! I just finished devouring a gorgeous meal with my sweetheart and of course enjoying a fabulous wine with it. Tonight’s wine however did much more than grab my attention, it was outstanding! I immediately began to melt with every mouth pleasing experience and one of the nicest meals we had created together in a while soon became an after thought. The wine? A beautiful Viognier by Syncline located in the Columbia Valley of Washington State. This wine exhibited everything that I respect most in a white varietal. Great weight, a lovely rich full mouth feel that finishes with lively acidity. Gorgeous fruit of luscious honeysuckle and apricot, it was perfect in my mind and gave rise to a little rant within me!

What’s the deal with those who insist on only purchasing and drinking red wine?

There seems to be an unfortunate trend occurring where white varietals are overlooked typically because of a false sense of identity. Maybe this trend is a result of past memories of kressman and cheap sparkling so dry and acidic that the only sensation it could possibly produce is pain resulting from the inevitable burning aftermath of a regretful sip. It is sad that some are genuinely opposed to white wines. I guess this doesn’t have to be an unfortunate realization as it simply means “more great whites for me!” Seriously, white varietals offer so much pleasure to the palate, fantastic flavor adventures. Great fruit, great weight, great acidity you name it white varietals are full of surprises.

They’re exciting, unpredictable, elegant and voluptuous. Thank you Syncline for some inspiration and of course for a great time!
