As a new home buyer the privilege is being able to pre-determine your choice of countertop with the developer. Most developers will provide the consumer with a chosen color scheme along with a choice of surfaces (usually granite or solid surface in many new developments) and upgrade options as well. All of which also contributes to the increased resale value of their properties.

If you are a first time home buyer, a veteran of the market, or a savvy investor, you will all have your own opinions and the advice of others to aid in making a multitude of choices. Glass Countertops

Glass countertops can give a kitchen that edgy, contemporary modern look that so many people today are looking for. It is a tempered glass which is relatively durable. It can withstand a decent amount of weight (300 lbs) but will break if heavy objects are dropped onto its' surface. Its color has a natural green tint and can be modified using translucent colors or opaque colors coated onto the backside of its' surface. Glass kitchen countertops are available in a range of finishes and can be smooth, textured, etched, sandblasted, grooved or patterned.

Further compliment your glass countertops with a solid glass backsplash or glass tiles!

As glass countertops are one piece and cut to order, they are extremely hygienic as there is no place for bacteria or food to hide. Glass is non-porous and relatively stain proof. It is extremely heat resistant (up to 700 degrees). Glass countertops are prone to being difficult to keep clean as finger prints and moisture marks show easily if not dried properly. Use a non abrasive cleaner and polish regularly. Should you damage or break a glass countertop, there is no simple repair. Each piece that is damaged would need to be replaced so it is not advisable to use this material in kitchens that experience much traffic. Color matching can be difficult as colors will vary due to the natural tint of glass, color will change again once exposed to natural and fixed light in your space

.

Glass is a very sexy countertop option and looks fantastic as a wet bar or entertaining area. Avoid cutting on glass and always try and use non-abrasive cleaners. If you are looking for something new, hip and ultra stylish then consider glass for your kitchen countertops and prepare to impress!
